Lex Fridman's blog
Tuesday, January 4th, 2011Here are a few good articles from Lex Fridman's training blog from just the past couple of weeks:
- Grabbing the Leg is Legal Again — Not technically, but apparently de facto based on Lex's observation of the Tokyo Grand Slam. Gerald Lafon had a similar observation at the World Championships, also in Tokyo.
- Te Guruma Counter with Harai Goshi — From the Tokyo Grand Slam. The Dutch player makes the mistake of trying te guruma from behind her opponent.
- Avoiding the Penalty for Stalling in Judo — Players use meaningless fake footsweeps to look like they're attacking, and refs buy it. I don't know, seems like that's asking for tsubame-gaeshi.
- Wash Your Gi — Yes. And the vodka is an interesting suggestion.
I see Lex is not only a judo competitor, he's a computer science researcher, a poet, and a general all-around thinker. I came across his blog via comments on AnnMaria De Mars's latest blog post, "Luck of the Draw is (usually) a Load of B.S.".
